Yes, granted, there was a material inducement for me to write this journal, but now that I'm here and crunching away at the ol' alphanumerics I might as well make it all worth our whiles :P

In short, I'll be writing a submission for dawho555 's just-announced writing contest, and I can even proclaim this to be something of an event. First off... given my infrequency of activity, I daresay that me uploading anything at all is a cause for celebration XD. Secondarily, it'll also be my first officially uploaded foray into fanfiction, something I've done much of in the recent past but have not exhibited in a formal capacity

So indeed, expect a new, if very short, piece from me in but a few days! Elsewise, however, I'm also happy to report that I have some other long-due literature cooking up for y'alls, so my regular fare will be back on the menu soon enough

This question is a pretty open-ended one, yet obviously for any writer quite a critical one nonetheless. :D

Basically, what do you specifically enjoy seeing when reading a story, be it mine or someone else's (erotic or otherwise)? I don't mean obviously universal aspects of a story that are unhelpful as input, like "a good plot" or "well-developed characters". Nor do I necessarily mean narrower characteristics that can still be seen as pertaining to the quality of a story. I'm thinking of facets that are independent of whether a story is "objectively" good or bad. Things like particular plot, character, or setting tropes (e.g. "I like stories set in big cyberpunk cities that convey a sense of enormity", "I prefer characters who tend to think about situations over just acting on instinctual emotion"). Facets that are moreso a matter of personal preference and bias.

And,
I'm thinking of preferences in the way of particular kinks, fetishes, and paraphiliae you like to see in stories in general, and/or would like to see more of in my stories in particular. Some people really like full-body rubber envelopment. Others have a thing for rope and handkerchiefs. I have my own preferences, of course, and I naturally tend to stick to them, but I've got nothing wrong with branching out a little and broadening my horizons if it means y'all get a little something from it too. ;)

I'll probably distill this down to a few polls in the future, but for now I'd very much like to hear what you guys think. So please comment! I value and want to hear your input, as it helps me improve as a writer and gives you a chance to voice your viewpoint! :)

Seeing as I was tagged by for yet another one of these cute little pass-it-on games, I've decided to oblige and follow up with eight factoids about my (at this point, signature) original character Visi! :)

As follows, the rules for this game are:
  • Post all rules
  • Write 8 facts about your character
  • Tag up to 8 other people
  • Specify which character you would like each person to elaborate on
Alright, let's jump in! For some context as to the world she now exists in (her "new canon"), look no further than here, Novaluna
  1. Visi is all at once an exceptionally intelligent, intensely curious, and highly imaginative person; for this reason, she often describes herself metaphorically as an "explorer" or "adventurer" as well as an "inventor", although she's not much for swinging across chasms on vines or crawling through booby-trapped temples, or for tinkering with crackpot machines in her basement. It is instead why she is a biopsionics scientist by education, profession, and passion; because she loves to discover the both secrets of the universe and the ways in which they can be utilized.

  2. In her old canon, now retired, Visi was unusual for having been born from a synthetic zygote, thus having no biological parents or ancestry in any conception. While this fact remains true for her in her new canon, it's much less unusual; nearly 90% of people on Novaluna are similarly conceived in such a manner.

  3. Visi is very loose-footed and loves to travel for extended periods of time, outright moving from place to place across Novaluna's colonies. However, she remains a big-city-of-lights girl at heart, and always returns to her true home, the Exclave.

  4. Formerly, Visi was capable only of (fairly weak) telepathy, which was nevertheless a big deal in her old setting. As her new setting of Novaluna is even more advanced, she's since received an upgrade; she and her cohort kin can now perceive aspects of reality that are difficult or impossible to glean through ordinary sensory means, going above mere clairvoyance, though the mechanism by which this is accomplished is not at all supernatural or magical. Only sufficiently advanced technology. ;)

This in particular is significant for its potential to do no less than fully revolutionize human understanding of the universe, and for that reason has also made her something of a target for many ne'er-do-wells.

  5. Visi is, indeed, a self-described "proud BDSM kinkster freak". In this regard quite deviously creative, she and whomever close and trustworthy will oblige her (usually, but not always, her partner Atrix) will go to great lengths to enact her elaborate fantasies wherever and whenever possible. Nevertheless, when big, complex, expensive scenes are neither feasible nor desirable for her in the moment, she always falls back on her trusty outfit of a white latex bolero straitjacket and other accessories if she just wants a little low-key playtime.

  6. Visi's relationship with Atrix (who is, in his own right, a changed character in his new incarnation) is complex and mercurial at times, yet nevertheless incredibly deep. Both have endured tragedy and trauma in their early lives, and only in the presence of each other are they fully and entirely at peace. Their bond is not one easily broken.

  7. Visi survives the Tempest, but is irrevocably changed as a result. Were it not for her, the Scions of Silence as they are would not exist.

  8. In a manner about which we still shake our heads to this day, my co-writer and I initially made Visi to be a one-off "throwaway" character meant to appear once to Atrix, then leave. Not halfway through writing her very fist scene, we realized how big of a mistake that would be. As we both developed the planned sprawl of the old storyline more and more, and thus her role within it, both her importance and our fondness for her only increased. Part of the reason we retired the first AmoreIncorporated universe was because we knew the only way to give its characters their due was to start afresh, each with their own stories tailored to them especially. Among other things, this corrects an "imbalance" in which Visi's actual story roles and appearances were very inadequate for her as a character whom we'd grown to love. Now, in Novaluna, she at last exists in a world that does her justice.
And as for whom else I shall tag? Well, I've always been a bit bashful about these things, and I don't want to seem a nuisance , so I'll just stick with two others I know well enough

, if you'd be so kind, even given all I've read of her, I'm always enthusiastic to know more about your eponymous character Phantom

and

, I'm thinking there's something interesting to be heard regarding Megan's backstory :D

In light of some striking recent productivity (churning out the entirety of Historical Ties Episode 1 in fewer than two weeks and subsequently finishing a shorter, soon-to-be-posted different story in four days), I recently embarked upon the beginning of a substantial writing project, a miniature saga to be made and released in three "chapters" and however many parts are required to upload them. It is very heavily story-oriented, and as tended to be the case with my earlier stories, that potentially means a rather lengthy intro sequence with a lot of windowdressing and not a lot of what people read erotic stories for; the proverbial "good shit" to which everything else, though by no means bad, is still "other shit".

Realising that now has me wondering whether it's at all worth the time to churn through those sorts of segments at all, when I could instead just jump right in media res and both spare myself the time to write them and my readership the bother of trawling through them on their way to what they're all really after. After all, these are erotic stories I write, and clearly tagged as such; most people don't click on them expecting first to climb over 5000 words of story exposition. That's not, of course, to say that stories with good, engaging plots by necessity require vast tracts of "other shit"; some of my most recent stories have received praise specifically for doing a better job of intertwining titillation with plot. But that only further brings into question the necessity of all the peripheral elements not related to the juicy erotica.

In this craft, I'm just a (sort-of) hobbyist with a small following. I write what I like, what I want to, and if other people like it too, that's just a bonus. But I love writing of all sorts and have so many opportunities to do so in other contexts that cutting down on the nonerotic content of erotic stories wouldn't be a compromise or sacrifice on my part. Which is to say, it is not a matter or concern of compromising the integrity of my writing by going against what I want to do versus what would be more popular. If I don't write, say, seven pages of dialogue or a dense fight scene in an otherwise erotic story, I'll use that spare to time write those elements in another context. What I want to know is if you, my readership, prefer it one way or another or if you really don't care at all. I'd like to know what adjustments or continuities in my style are worthwhile for you guys :)

Commentary Update: Having the chance to read on a few peoples' opinions (more of which are always welcome) lead me to realise I was, in fact, approaching this question wrong. I presented it to myself and you all like there was a binary choice between adding a chunk of plot without erotica, or just excising it for the sake of paring down content people might not be interested in. Self-reflection reveals that to be folly; the real solution is to challenge myself to write that intro sequence so that it incorporates the smut we're all after :P without compromising on the story quality. Sure, that might require some reconsideration on the story and setting, but if it's possible and worthwhile, then it's a challenge I should and shall undertake :D

Keeping House

4 min read
As some of you--presumably very few, critical to my point later on--may notice when perusing my gallery, I have just deleted every non-erotic story in my gallery, which is to say, the substantial bulk of content composing the Amore Incorporated story series to which I owe my moniker here and many places elsewhere, to say nothing of my aptitude as a writer. Suffice to mention, it's something of a major event for me

Now, to disclose; the Amore Incorporated series is not mine alone. I share it with my co-writer and dearest friend; he, not I, was, in fact, responsible for writing the great majority of content in the nonerotic AM stories, while the reverse is true for the erotic stories in the series. In light of this, I must clarify; no, I did not get razzled by the authorities =P . Posting the entire series under a single "joint" account was his idea to begin with, although it was not long at all before I, Riley, took full stewardship of it.

However, that was then. Then, we has a grand master plan on how this anticipatedly tremendous corpus of interwoven stories would sprawl... and yet as the best-laid plans of mice and men tend to go, now it is a derelict relic of the past. Both of us have moved on to far bigger, far better things in our literary pursuits, projects of greater magnitude, ambition, and quality, yet carried with better prospects as well (that amazing sumbitch even managed to publish a damn book before me).

That in mind, today (yesterday?) I uploaded Locus, the story that I can say with confidence is the last installment in the series for an indefinite period of time, and my personal farewell to such a formative project. In true AM fashion, it is contextually adrift, self-contained as a story yet linked to all the rest by plotlines and explanations never to manifest beyond my imagination. Maybe for this reason it will never be able shake a sense of dissatisfaction, of denouement denied. But it was either that or silent abandonment, and I owe the series one last tribute at least.

To mark this transition, I have, as aforementioned, scrubbed my gallery of the non-erotic entries to the series. Given that they counted a whopping four favourites between them and shared very modest view counts, I doubt they will be sorely missed; my co-writer concurs. Yes, it's true that their lack bereaves the remaining erotic stories of context and prior events leading up to them, but let's be candid here; those stories are titillating smut. Well-written smut, it's true, but the plots are ultimately just windowdressing to the juicy lascivia. I see no tears being shed. Nevertheless... on the off chance that someone so deeply wants to read those stories, I still have them, and am perfectly willing to share them through private channels. Because that's what I do here; hawk erotica in the open air while passing out the boring, semi-appropriate stuff behind closed doors Dignity Laugh

While in retrospect I view the narrative as pretty decent overall and quite special in places, abandoning it is par for the course and no great difficult. Far more painful is relinquishing the characters that, as they developed along their intertwining paths, I came to truly cherish. If ever I return to the series, however unlikely, it is because I could never consign those characters to the void. More than likely, however, they will be given a new lease on life, elsewhere, in a new, superior canon in which their charm and wonder can truly shine as they were meant to. That, however, is yet to come.

For those precious few who trawled through the above sea of text, I thank you for sticking it out. As always, stay tuned for more, uncertain as to when but absolutely forthcoming.

Stay creative,

Riley Wynter, AmoreIncorporated
